You Are 4 Weeks Pregnant
4 weeks pregnant means two weeks after implantation of the fertilized egg. The egg is now attached to the inside wail of the uterus and stretching out tendril like extensions that connect with the blood vessels in lining of the uterus. This process is very vital for the developing embryo because that is where it gets nutrients and oxygen and is able to survive.
The mother’s blood and the baby’s do not mix because they have different circulatory systems. The exchange of nutrients and gas is possible through the close proximity of the mother’s blood vessels to the placenta. This is the time when you will start suspecting that you could be pregnant due to a missed period. Slight bleeding or spotting occurs at 3 weeks pregnant, and it is due to the implantation. It may look like normal periods only that the bleeding is light and lasts for a day or two.
The baby’s heart and the blood vessels are forming very rapidly at 3 weeks pregnant. The neural tube begins to form during this week to become the nervous system that consists of the brain, skin and spinal cord. Folic acid is very important to help the neural tube to develop during this time and prevent birth defects of the neural system
